The songs of Alberto Rabagliati

The songs of Alberto Rabagliati

Quando canta Rabagliati

Theme tune for the program of the same name launched on the radio in 1941, where Rabagliati presented six songs each time.

La canzone del boscaiolo

A piece with a slightly country flavour, 1941, accompanied by the Trio Lescano at their height and the orchestra of Pippo Barzizza.

Ba ba baciami piccina

Used for the film Una famiglia impossibile  by Anton Giulio Bragaglia (1940), it was his signature piece. Released again in 1952 by Rosemary Clooney in English, it finished in 2nd place in the U.S. charts.

Ma l’amore no

A classic slow piece in Italian style, it was launched by Alida Valli in the film Stasera niente di nuovo (1942) and released again the following year by Lina Termini. It was also recorded by Iva Zanicchi and Bobby            Solo.

Mattinata fiorentina

“E’ primavera, svegliatevi bambine…”: one of the immortal openings of Italian song by Giovanni D’Anzi and Michele Galdieri. It was launched in the revue E’ bello qualche volta andare a piedi (1942)

Tu musica divina

Launched on the radio in 1940, Rabagliati performed it again in the film La scuola dei timidi by Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia (1941).

Quando la radio

A hit from 1940 that translates words of love between an engaged couple into the cryptic language of wartime (each change of station corresponds to a meaning that only the other can understand…)

Una chiesetta amor

Another signature piece, it became the theme song for the Angelini orchestra.

Maria la O

One of the most representative pieces of the repertoire in Spanish that Rabagliati performed with the orchestra of Lecuona, written by him.

La scuola del ritmo

One of those light-hearted songs where the great Raba gives music lessons starting with solfeggio. Recorded in 1946 with the Beppe Mojetta orchestra, it was performed again by Renzo Arbore and his Swing Maniacs.

Il primo pensiero

It was the B side of Ba Ba baciami piccina and is part of Rabagliati’s romantic repertoire.

Una casetta piccina (sposi)

Launched at the height of the twenty years (1940) after various demographic campaigns, it became an anthem after the war had already begun.

Bambina innamorata

Cover of a song launched by Luciana Dolliver in 1934, it was later identified with Rabagliati’s interpretation.

La strada nel bosco

Another cover that in Rabagliati’s version became rhythmic and vivacious, without detracting from the original by Carlo Buti (1942)

Silenzioso slow

Rabagliati snatched the song from Norma Bruni, whose beautiful alto voice had debuted with this song. Here you can hear it in the 1962 recording with the arrangements by Giorgio Gaslini.

Amapola

An international hit launched by Jimmy Dorsey’s orchestra in 1941. Rabagliati performs it using his crooner voice.
