After the initial year in which Cutugno won (<em>Solo noi<\/em>), in <strong>1981<\/strong> RAI reverted to the three night formula. That year Alice won with <em>Per Elisa<\/em>, while Loretta Goggi (<em>Maledetta primavera<\/em>), in second place, contributed to the revival with half a million copies sold. Praise also went to newcomers like Barbarossa (<em>Roma spogliata<\/em>), Mannoia (<em>Caff\u00e9 nero bollente<\/em>) and De Crescenzo (<em>Ancora<\/em>), but the market rewarded Ricchi e Poveri (<em>Sar\u00e0 perch\u00e9 ti amo<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>1982<\/strong> first place was awarded to Riccardo Fogli (<em>Storie di tutti i giorni<\/em>), ahead of Al Bano and Romina (<em>Felicit\u00e0<\/em>). There were also two notable debutants, Vasco Rossi and Zucchero. The following year the songs numbered 36, and the podium was all female: Tiziana Rivale (<em>Sar\u00e0 quel che sar\u00e0<\/em>), Donatella Milani (<em>Volevo dirti<\/em>) and Dori Ghezzi (<em>Margherita non lo sa<\/em>). However, sales rewarded the songs <em>Vita Spericolata<\/em> (Vasco), <em>1950<\/em> (Minghi), <em>L\u2019italiano<\/em> (Cutugno) and <em>Vacanze Romane<\/em> (Matia Bazar).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>1984<\/strong> edition was devoted to tradition: first Al Bano and Romina (<em>Ci sar\u00e0<\/em>), followed by Toto Cutugno (<em>Serenata<\/em>) and Christian (<em>Cara<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>1985<\/strong> the Ricchi e Poveri triumphed with <em>Se m\u2019innamoro<\/em>, 15 years after their first performance. Ramazzotti was on the rise (<em>Una storia importante<\/em>), and would win the following year, in <strong>1986<\/strong>, with <em>Adesso tu<\/em>. Renzo Arbore came second with <em>Il clarinetto<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>1987<\/strong> edition awarded the prize to the trio Morandi Tozzi Ruggeri (<em>Si pu\u00f2 dare di pi\u00f9<\/em>). The following year (<strong>1988<\/strong>) it was Massimo Ranieri\u2019s turn to win with <em>Perdere l&#8217;amore,<\/em> while Reitano sang <em>Andamento lento<\/em> and Tullio De Piscopo filled clubs with <em>Andamento lento<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The <strong>1989<\/strong> edition consecrated Anna Oxa (<em>Ti lascer\u00f2<\/em>), but international guests such as the likes of Elton John, Boy George, Europe, Ray Charles, and Simply Red stole the scene. Among the new faces were Mietta, Jovanotti and Francesco Salvi.
