Renato Rascel and Tony Dallara won in 1960 with <em>Romantica<\/em>; Luciano Tajoli and Betty Curtis in <strong>1961<\/strong> with <em>Al di l\u00e0<\/em>, but the revelation of that edition was Adriano Celentano, who with <em>24milabaci<\/em> introduced rock&#8217;n&#8217;roll on the stage of the Festival. The singer-songwriters also made their debut: Gino Paoli, Giorgio Gaber, Maria Monti, Gianni Meccia, Umberto Bindi and Pino Donaggio.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>1962<\/strong> the couple formed by Villa and Modugno with <em>Addio addio<\/em> hit the mark, but the moral victory belonged to Tony Renis, whose performance earned him the sobriquet of Mr. <em>Quando quando quando<\/em>. He would win in <strong>1963<\/strong> with<em> Uno per tutte<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Between <strong>1964<\/strong> and <strong>1969<\/strong> the Riviera became a Babel of races and nationalities: whites, blacks, mestizos, English, Brazilians, Austrians, French, American natives were all invited to sing in Italian, which became the Esperanto of light music.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>1964,<\/strong> sixteen-year-old Gigliola Cinquetti won with<em> Non ho l\u2019et\u00e0<\/em>, which also triumphed at the Eurovision Song Contest. However, the market rewarded Bobby Solo with his <em>Una lacrima sul<\/em> <em>viso <\/em>(2 million copies), who would go on to win <strong>1965<\/strong> with <em>Se piangi se ridi<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>1966<\/strong> Caterina Caselli led the vanguard of the young generations (<em>Nessuno mi pu\u00f2 giudicare<\/em>) while a messianic Celentano launched an ecologic message (<em>Il ragazzo<\/em> <em>della via Gluck<\/em>). Once again melody won, but <em>Dio come ti amo<\/em> (Modugno and Cinquetti) would soon be forgotten.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>1967<\/strong> protest in the wake of the beat generation was all the rage, and the festival saw the participation of the Rokes, the Giants, Marianne Faithfull, Antoine, the Hollies, Sonny &amp; Cher. Villa and Zanicchi won with <em>Non pensare a me<\/em> but more memorable songs would be <em>L\u2019immensit\u00e0<\/em>, <em>La musica \u00e8 finita<\/em> and <em>Ciao amore ciao<\/em>, the last song by Luigi Tenco, who would kill himself on the night of the final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <strong>1968<\/strong> the juries rewarded Sergio Endrigo (<em>Canzone per te<\/em>) while also expressing appreciation to Don Backy (<em>Casa bianca <\/em>e<em> Canzone<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the year of labour union strikes (<strong>1969<\/strong>), <em>Zingara <\/em>came first, but among the favourites were Lucio Battisti&nbsp; (<em>Un\u2019avventura<\/em>, with Wilson Pickett), the New Trolls (<em>Io<\/em> <em>che ho te<\/em>) and Gabriella Ferri (<em>Se tu ragazzo mio<\/em>, with Stevie Wonder).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The decade began under the banner of compromises between crooners and \u201cscreamers\u201d.
