The protests of 1968

The political song in Italy entered its modern phase with the 1960s revolt movements, which not only rediscovered and added to the repertoire of the Resistance, but inspired the writing of new songs by both politically committed and less socially aware songwriters, many of them connected with the experience of the Nuovo Canzoniere Italiano. This anthology features some of the main protest songs from that season, exploring themes such as the contradictions between the notions of “political” and “personal”, exploitation at work, and the condition of workers and students.
