Un disco per l'estate 1968

On 15 July 1968 Riccardo del Turco triumphed in the music festival “Un Disco per l’Estate” with his song Luglio, beating with 145 points Orietta Berti in second place with Non illuderti mai (99 points) and Franco IV e Franco I in third place with Ho scritto t’amo sulla sabbia (55 points). This playlist focusses on that 1968 edition of the by-then popular summer song festival held in Saint Vincent in Valle d’Aosta, and includes a selection of 20 songs out of the 56 songs submitted at the start, which gradually reduced to 24 for the two semifinals (after a long period of radio broadcasting which began in April and the resulting popular vote) and 12 for the final. As often happens in festivals, some of the songs excluded from the final phase were rewarded by successful sales, as in the case of Cinque minuti poi sung by Maurizio, and Un colpo al cuore by Mario Zelinotti, which Mina would subsequently interpret and turn into a success.
