To the Unknown Soldier - Antiwar songs 1

In the second half of the twentieth century, in Italian and international songs, there was a growing and widespread awareness of the war atrocities that had caused so many casualties in the two terrible world wars in the first half of the 20th century. Musicians began writing and singing anti-war songs throughout European and the American continent, addressing general and particular themes, and alongside the folk songs that recounted those terrible times, there were also original songs that narrated, each with their own peculiarities, stories of times of war. In this playlist many of the most important Italian singer-songwriters tackle these issues, with the one exception of Il desertore, a song composed in 1954 by the French writer and musician Boris Vian during the Indochina war, and subsequently translated and performed in our language by several Italian artists. A song that can rightly be considered the forefather of modern anti-war songs.
