Elvira Donnarumma - The vamp

An extraordinarily talented performer with a strong and passionate character, Elvira Donnarumma (1883 - 1953) sang about love, pain and death with unparalleled expressiveness, to the point of carving out a unique and personal space in a world dominated by men. Despite being minute and not particularly beautiful, she emanated a strong magnetism that stunned audiences. Elvira Donnarumma conquered the Italian scene at the Olimpia Theatre in Rome in 1908 and was one of the first to record her songs as well as star in several silent films.
