Francesi in Italia 2 playlist
The french in Italy 2
After a first playlist dedicated to French singers who have ventured into our language, now it’s the turn of the male performers, again French, who were part of our recording scene, and who were certainly more numerous than their other European colleagues. Almost exclusively, and with a few rare exceptions, these were Italian versions of their hits in their home country. All of this took place in the 1960s in particular, when there was a very widespread interest among international artists in the Italian market (thanks to the presence of foreign singers at the Sanremo Festival). The only one who continued to record his songs in Italian until the 1980s was Charles Aznavour, who with Leo Ferré, Gilbert Beacud and Yves Montand represents the glorious lineage of French chansonniers here. The other singers in this playlist come from the world of pop, rock and, in the case of Nino Ferrer, rhythm & blues, as we can hear from one of his vibrant live performances of La pelle nera. Of those who were most fond of the Italian language, we should remember Richard Anthony who, in addition to participating in the Sanremo Festival, always appreciated Italian songs (as is the case with Il mio mondo by Umberto Bindi included in this playlist), having recorded them successfully on more than one occasion in French thereby helping a wider audience get to know them.
