First emerging in Britain in the wake of the Beatles and other pop groups, the Beat movement exploded in Italy in 1965. In the space of two or three years it went from being an expression of youth subculture to becoming a mass phenomenon capable of profoundly affecting the prospects of the song form. Covers imported foreign rhythms and sounds to Italy, and nearly all the Italian versions of foreign hits can be found in this collection devoted to bands, as well as some British bands that recorded songs in Italian.
