Italian songs abroad 1
Success was not denied to those few Italian (especially Neapolitan) songs which managed to become known and appreciated in Europe and America, above all in the 1940s and 50s. In particular, it was thanks to Nel blu dipinto di blu (which was immediately rechristened Volare on the international level) that the way was opened for our songs throughout the world in 1958. Ever since, contemporary Italian music has remained known on a global level, in part on the strength of the fame enjoyed today by such singers as Laura Pausini and Eros Ramazzotti. This is the first playlist of a series which we have named Italian Songs Abroad, which tells the story of those songs which crossed over our borders and tried their luck in other countries. Some met with success, others less so, but the important point is that they all gave it a go. In some cases our singers translated their hits into other languages, while in others the songs appealed to European and American singers, who included them on their own albums.
