The canzonissima theme songs
Canzonissima was one of the most popular television programmes of the 1960s and 1970s. Thanks to the simple mechanism of a competition between songs with progressive elimination, it was able to keep the audience interested for twenty years, between 1956 and 1975.
A founding element in its success was undoubtedly the fact of combining the songs in the competition with the New Year's Lottery prizes, which were drawn at the end of the competition. The broadcast was given different names over the years: it began in 1956 as Le canzoni della fortuna, then became Voci e volti della fortuna in 1957, finally arriving at Canzonissima from 1958 to 1962. It was called the Gran Premio in 1963, Napoli contro tutti in 1964, La prova del nove in 1965, Scala Reale in 1966, Partitissima in 1967, while from 1968 to 1975 it assumed the original title.
The programme also guaranteed success and popularity for the various hosts, from Mina to Delia Scala, Alberto Lionello, Paolo Panelli, Corrado, Nino Manfredi, and Dario Fo and Franca Rame, who in 1962 were the protagonists of a sensational controversy involving a sketch deemed politically inappropriate, and replaced during programming.
The soubrette who was alternated with the presenters became equally successful: Loretta Goggi, Mita Medici and above all Raffaellà Carrà, who owes the start of an extraordinary television career to Canzonissima.
