Meme Bianchi
Meme Bianchi (1907-2000) was one of the most popular voices in Italian song during the 1930s and ‘40s, when she assiduously worked with both radio orchestras and on Italian stages, as a soubrette singer and actress and with the company 'I divi del microfono (stars of the microphone)', alongside Nuccia Natali, Aldo Masseglia and Carlo Moreno.
She worked on the radio programme I quattro moschettieri playing the role of Greta Garbo and her artistic bond with Maestro Mario Mariotti, who knew how to make the most of her elegant vocal timbre, continued throughout her entire career, turning into a marital bond in 1939.
Some of her greatest hits include Maggio, Chiesetta alpina, E poi farai di me quello che vuoi, Un giorno ti dirò, but in this playlist we wanted to scout out her lesser known but no less interesting performances, in which Bianchi passes seamlessly from fox-trot to java, from the waltz to the one-step. There is also an original cover, Qualche filo bianco from Odoardo Spadaro's repertoire, in addition to Nous avons l'Italie, a brilliant waltz on the comparison between the celebrities of France and Italy. Her interest in the cousins beyond the Alps then lead her to perform some great classics of French song in the post-war period (until her retirement from the scene in 1958).
