The years after the First World War were possibly the most positive and creative period in the history of the classic Neapolitan song. It was then that a fresh generation of poets and musicians gave a new lease of life to an already well established and recognized a tradition, both in Italy and abroad. New performers, not all of them Italian (Buti and Schipa), carried their torch in splendid continuity with those of the past, but reaching new heights of fame thanks to records, which played a fundamental role in the dissemination of the repertoire.
