Humoristic songs – vol.1
Humour is among the most widely used ingredients in the classical repertoire, beginning with the first record released in Italy, A’ risa (Laughter, 1895), a Neapolitan adaptation of an American vaudeville song. Relying heavily on the comical renditions of the interpreters, the genre of the caricature took hold at the end of the century filling theatres and café-chantant alike. The tradition was to be elevated by the duo of Gigi Pisano (lyrics) and Giuseppe Cioffi (music) and their interpreter of choice Nino Taranto (1907-1986).
