Oscar Carboni playlist

Anthology 1940 – 1943

Oscar Carboni (1914-1993) was one of the most beloved Italian singers of the 1940s. His popularity was equal to that of other performers of the period, such as Alberto Rabagliati, Natalino Otto and Ernesto Bonino. This playlist covers the first three years of his career, beginning in 1940 with the orchestra of Pippo Barzizza, and includes some of his greatest hits of the period, such as Firenze sogna, Piccola santa, Mamma buonanotte, Stelle di Spagna e Cantate con me, which was used in the homonymous film directed in 1940 by Guido Brignone. The war temporarily interrupted his recording work as he was called to arms, but he managed to assert his talent as a singer, avoiding the front and performing very successfully in the shows organized by the EIAR for the troops of the armed forces. He was nicknamed the nightingale of song for his melodious vocal timbre and tendency to embellish. After the war he resumed his singing career with undiminished popularity, before embarking on a very long tour of Latin America, which kept him away from Italy for four years between 1947 and 1951.
