Songs by Libero Bovio – vol. 1
Considered “the poet of the Neapolitan song”, Libero Bovio (1883-1942) was the most refined lyricist in the golden age of this particular genre. Bovio was also a playwright and gave the first impulse to the creation of the “sceneggiata”, a musical theatre genre that emerged in the 1920s. Bovio excelled in the lyrics for the songs in dialect, as he was a firm believer of their cultural importance. Nevertheless, he did not disdain writing songs in Italian, for what he defined as commercial reasons.
