Rimmel - Songs by Francesco De Gregori 2

Francesco De Gregori launched his recording career in 1972 and over time his repertoire has become a classic of Italian song. So like all classics, there is no lack of reinterpretations of his works, and this playlist (the second of De Gregori’s songs) aims at bearing witness to this, taking into account the fact that covers of his songs were made continuously over the course of years, showing an unflagging interest in his compositions. And the fact that for this playlist, there are some live performances helps understand that the choice to include De Gregori’s songs in concert form is a choice widely shared by artists who tackle that repertoire in front of an audience. It ranges from pure interpreters like Fiorella Mannoia (Ninetto e la colonia), Mia Martini (Alice), Massimo Ranieri (La leva calcistica della classe ‘68), Paola Turci (Saigon) and arrives at a formation like the Doctor 3 (Danilo Rea on the piano, Enzo Pietropaoli on double bass, Fabrizio Sferra on drums) who produce a surprising jazz interpretation of Generale. There's room for an elegant version of Atlantide by Alice to then make room for male and female voices from the world of original singing-songwriting (Luca Carboni and Riccardo Sinigallia with La casa di Hilde and Gianna Nannini with La donna cannone), to some of the biggest pop celebrities (Gianni Morandi, Ricchi & Poveri) confirming the great popularity of songs like Rimmel and Buonanotte fiorellino. Then the Schola Cantorum and I Tenores di Bitti take it upon themselves to blend light music and traditional Sardinian song with Piccola mela. There is also an artist’s tribute to the recording debut, Alberto Belgesto, who on his debut album of 2002, Non è successo niente, recuperated a little-known piece, Il ragazzo, which De Gregori had included in Alice non lo sa (the first album entirely of his own creation) from 1973.
