Serenate e stornelli playlist

In a middle ground between authentic folklore and the pop song there stands a vast repertoire of serenades and stornelli whose origins date back to many centuries ago. The most classic love song, the serenade, also belongs to the operatic tradition and was thus a coveted genre open to appropriation first of all by the bel canto interpreters. The stornello is a popular poetic form especially widespread in central Italy that often deals with love or satiric themes and lends itself to improvisation in rhyme.
