Woodstock in Italy

On the fiftieth anniversary of Woodstock (August 15-17, 1969), we propose a tour of our own festivals, which began to pop up like mushrooms immediately after the event that re-labelled the hippy generation. The winds of the counterculture also blew on us, producing excellent music, even though it was clearly modeled on the examples from across the Atlantic and the English Channel. So this is a great opportunity to listen to groups that helped invent Italian rock and discover others that have unfortunately disappeared from the scene but that left an important mark. Among the former, the Premiata Forneria Marconi, the Area, the Delirium wth Ivano Fossati and the Stormy Six, very well known abroad in the alternative circuits. Of the latter, the Genoese Osage Tribe (their single was the theme song for Chissà chi lo sa, the children's program presented by Febo Conti) and Nuova Idea (both centered on guitarist Marco Zoccheddu), the Piedmontese Circus 2000 (with Silvana Aliotta, the Italian Grace Slick), the Neapolitans Osanna (pioneers of a theatrical rock somewhere between early Genesis and commedia dell'arte), the Alusa Fallax from Novara (they recorded only one album) and the Quella vecchia locanda from Rome (much applauded at the Villa Pamphili Festival of 1972 for the violin solo in the piece included here) and Il Rovescio della Medaglia, many of whom got their start at the Festival della Musica Avanguardia e delle Nuove Tendenze (Festival of Avant-garde Music and New Trends) organized in Viareggio in 1971 and then moved to Rome the following year. The curiosities include the song by a very young Mia Martini who won an award in Viareggio together with PFM and Osanna.
