The vernacular repertoires of each region and province reflect the deep fragmentation of the Italian song scene and its vitality. From the Tyrol to Sicily, from the Abruzzi to the Veneto, from Piedmont to the Veneto, the vernacular tradition combined the oral tradition and the new urban ballad shaped by professional authors and singers, resulting in a watered-down folklore that was much in fashion during the Fascist era.
